Which is the latest UK locale that I am supposed to be using? The one on the official page here or the one bluechives uploaded here.
Thanks.
BTW for anyone who uses any locales other than US, you need to copy the email templates from the US local to the GB locale. This ensures the magento email system continues to work.
@Eminent Style: without blowing my own trumpet, I would say that files at the URL below are the most current. Hopefully Gavin will update the official translation shortly.
The main changes that I made were spelling and terminology changes (e.g. zip Code --> Post Code). On issues like should it be cart or Basket, that rather depends on your site, It could just as easily be Trolley or Bag or even Toy box. Having said that I think that Basket would be a better default then Cart for the UK.
After taking on the role of translation moderator with enthusiasm it seems that GavinPearce has lost interest. I suggest that if Gavin doesn’t turn up soon that we appoint a new person (bluechives?)
I’ve just been through all the CSV files, and I believe them to actually be a long way off actually being finalised.
As I had done a large amount on this already, I have taken my files (as they come from the newest stable version, bluechives used older files that are not missing stuff or have extra lines) and merged in changes from bluechives’ files.
Perhaps a few of us together would be good, that way it’s not just 1 person’s opinion?
I’ve uploaded my updates here, let me know your thoughts/suggestions/etc.
It includes:
Tax -> VAT
Cart -> Basket
American Spelling -> English Spelling (i.e. catalog -> catalogue, initialize -> initialise
Cannot -> Unable (where relevant)
Shipping & Handling -> Postage & Packing (and similar changes)
General grammar and spelling.
Capitalisation of URL
Still required:
Shipment stuff
Some lines are clearly mistranslated, but it is not clear what they are supposed to say.
I reckon Delivery. I think it makes more sense to have it all unified (i.e. Delivery OR Postage) and Delivery is more universal, and works in more (or all?) of the contexts.
Just to let you know I have now joined the moderator team for the Official UK Translation. I’ve updated the package so that it is up to date with all current changes.
I’ve done a lot of global changes (as described in this thread) and I am now working through each module individually to check spelling etc.
So far, I have completed the following:
I’ve also set up the email notifications so that I will get notified of any new suggestions via the main tool, so feel free to use that and I will look over them ASAP.
My aim is to get this wrapped up this month (although that maybe optimistic with final checks as well!) if not, August.
The ‘progress’ percentage is misleading by the way, as may terms don’t need to be translated. Once everything is translated that needs translating and double checked, I can click the button to set all the remaining phrases to translated too.
