Example:
1) Customer selects from a range of products (code snippets)
2) The customer then completes the check-out through Magento
3) The customer is then able to download the purchased product
I would like to know the answer to this too, particularly if Magento can handle the purchase of training videos for download or viewing with out download.
In my case, I would like to associate a file (art template actually) with a product.
We are selling custom shirts for example and the product comes with a
photoshop template file you download, design and then upload back into the server so we
can print the merch item.
Note that Virtual products are NOT the same as Downloadable products. Downloadable products (which most users would want) isnt on the Roadmap to Varien I think. Yet..
Yep, I watched the video and virtual products will be in 1.1, and downloadable products will “follow right after that” (but no actual time frame was given).
Whats the difference between virtual products and digital downloads?
Thanks
I think virtual products are products that don’t require shipping addresses, don’t charge shipping, etc. However, you need to E-Mail the item to the person (or send them a link, or whatever) yourself.
Digital downloads will allow you to put the files on the server and once they are purchased, Magento will create a download link and send it to the customer. Completely automated.
How are people getting around the lack of a digital downloads feature in the interim? In my business model, the majority of the sales will be digital downloads and e-mailing the files will not be a viable solution since the average file size is around 120mb. Most e-mail programs I have seen cap off around 10-20mb…
I was wondering the same thing. Also, they said that digital downloads would “follow right after” the 1.1 release. It looks like we’re up to 1.1.5 with no digital downloads?
