Hi,

how do I deactivate modules like Tags or Customer reviews for single stores?

Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin,

have a look in the *.xml files in the layout directory.

To not show the tags you can edit the file:

/app/design/frontend/YOUR_INTERFACE/YOUR_THEME/layout/tag.xml

reviews can be found here

/app/design/frontend/YOUR_INTERFACE/YOUR_THEME/layout/review.xml

The Recommend a friend feature can be disabled from the admin backend under

System >Configuration >Catalog - Email a friend

good luck

Would love to see these as actual options in the admin. I don’t want a ‘social’ online store.

Also, what do I actually edit in those XML files to disable tags/reviews?

Hi there,

For Tags:

in the xml file
/app/design/frontend/YOUR_INTERFACE/YOUR_THEME/layout/tag.xml

Just comment out the blocks you don’t want. Like so:

<default>
      <!--
Mage_Tag -->
      <!--  <
reference name="left">
            <
block type="tag/popular" name="tags_popular" template="tag/popular.phtm">
                <
action method="setTemplate"><template>tag/popular.phtml</template></action>
            </
block>
        </
reference>-->
    </default>

    <
customer_account>
        <!--
Mage_Tag -->
        <!--<
reference name="customer_account_navigation">
            <
action method="addLink" translate="label" module="tag"><name>tags</name><path>tag/customer/</path><label>My Tags</label></action>
        </
reference>-->
    </
customer_account>

    <
catalog_product_view>
         <!--
Mage_Tag -->
        <!-- <
reference name="product.info.additional">
            <
block type="tag/product_list" name="product_tag_list" before="-" template="tag/list.phtml"></block>
        </
reference>-->
    </
catalog_product_view>

That should take care of most if not all pages where tags appear.

For Reviews:

/app/design/frontend/YOUR_INTERFACE/YOUR_THEME/layout/review.xml

<customer_account>
        <!--
Mage_Review -->
        <!--<
reference name="customer_account_navigation">
            <
action method="addLink" translate="label" module="review"><name>reviews</name><path>customer/review/</path><label>My Product Reviews</label></action>
        </
reference>-->
    </
customer_account>

    <
customer_account_index>
        <!--
Mage_Review -->
        <!--<
reference name="customer_account_dashboard">
            <
action method="unsetChild"><name>customer_account_dashboard_info1</name></action>
            <
block type="review/customer_recent" name="customer_account_dashboard_info1" as="info1" template="review/customer/recent.phtml"/>
        </
reference>-->
    </
customer_account_index>

Kia Ora,
(must be Maori language week around here...)

copy /app/design/frontend/default/default/layout/catalog.xml

to /app/design/frontend/YOUR_INTERFACE/YOUR_THEME/layout/catalog.xml

Have a look in the default section. Under reference right you’ll find the call for the compare product box. Comment it out again:

<reference name="right">
            <!--<
block type="core/template" before="cart_sidebar" name="catalog.compare.sidebar" template="catalog/product/compare/sidebar.phtml"/>-->
            <
block type="core/template" name="right.permanent.callout" template="callouts/right_col.phtml"/>
        </
reference>

In general when you are not sure where stuff is coming from turn on the tempate path hints:
Admin -> Configuration -> [select your store] -> Developer tab -> [enable Template Path Hints]

With this knowledge have a browse/search in the xml files in the layout folder. Usually I just comment them out in my own theme so I can enable them again if I want to.

I will also like to tag the products from the admin and not let users tag the products. Is there a way for doing this, I can’t find for the moment a solution. Any Ideas???

Just as an addition to this thread, you can now disable tags and reviews from the admin (without having to change any code). (my version is 1.1.6)

It is in System / Configuration / Advanced
choose “disable” next to

Mage_Tag
and
Mage_Review

I have deactivated “customer reviews” in the admin panel but the option is still showing up in our store. (Magento 1.1.8)

I have reset and deactivate all cache files but this did not solve the problem.

Anyone else having this issue in 1.1.8?

Thanks for the info - saved me from hacking the template files. smile
