Wow thank you very much.

But in your database scheme.sql is an sql syntax error.

Instead of

assert_data national text,

you should usw

assert_data text,

and there are many more sql errors =/

Ggoodwin,

These are really awesome! So do you do this by hand? (meaning a large portion of it is not automated) Or does Sybase PowerDesigner handle everything?

I am interested in creating a visual look at all my databases (magento core + extensions). About how long does it take someone to do with that program?

Uniquesone,
Thanks - the schema SQL I posted was 100% auto-generated by Sybase PowerDesigner.  There are options to suppress and alter the output, but what I generated was the “out-of-the-box” default.  I will open the SQL syntax document and adjust it next week when I have some time.  In the meantime, you might want to use a tool like textpad and do a document-wide search and replace to fix any syntax style issues to match your particular MYSQL setup.

ShopGuy,
The technical aspects of the diagram are auto generated by reverse-engineering the DB (standard stuff most tools do).  I have used several tools, but prefer the Sybase PowerDesigner user interface for “painting the picture”.  The grouping, coloring, and repositioning are all manual processes and can be somewhat time-consuming.  I’ve been designing databases for several years as a contractor and found doing a bit more work to visually to document the DB eventually pays off.  Going through the exercise certainly helps me to understand the DB better, and the effort usually reduces the DB learning curve for anyone else joining the project.

I am finishing up a contract this week, but if you would like to contact me next week I could walk you through the process and even help you get started.  Let me know - good luck.

Releases v1.3.2.3 and v1.3.2.4 are technically the same; HOWEVER…

...the initial 1.3.2.3 diagram listed columns in a few tables that had actually been removed so I have re-posted the diagram with the corrections.  The corrected version says v1.3.2.4 in the diagram title.

In wiki you see

To see text at the TABLE level requires 2×2 pages or greater (approx scale 45%)

To see text at the COLUMN level requires 4×4 pages or greater (approx scale 85%)

Hope it helped you

Just a warning to those attempting to use the 1.3 diagrams for Magento 1.4...

I did a quick comparison between the 1.3.x and 1.4.x databases and… Ugh.  There are 106 new tables and 14 deleted tables since last updating the DB diagram.  So even though the basic areas are similar (sales,EAV,customer, product...), there are too many changes to rely on the diagrams posted.

I have attached a summary of schema changes from 1.3.2.4 to 1.4.1.0.

No updated diagram yet - that may take awhile.  No promises - but my current contract ends in a week, so if I find myself with too much time on my hands and backpacking or waterskiing don’t sound as fun as diagramming the Magento DB update then perhaps…

Hey -tof-
To answer your question… I don’t have access to the EE database/product.  If you send me the schema SQL or the DB I can take a look at what it would take to diagram the differences…

Thanks for your notice.

Awesome work, just printed on DIN A3 and basted it on team’s whiteboard. I also printed the change summary.

Looking forward for the new one

Thanks “ggoodwin” for your wonderful & great work in providing the DB Architecture, along with the changes for each of the versions. It’s really awesome.
