It’s an english name but the store is 100% french. We opened yesterday this online shop focused on rock climbing products. From the beginning of the project late 2007 we decided to propose new or different products, so we were also very interested by this upcoming solution named Magento.
We tried all preview releases, this was a great opportunity to look around (and inside) Magento and try to understand how it works. Then we had to wait for the 1.0 release (waiting is always too long), we then made a clean install to apply our design and few code changes.
Of course we had to fix some problems, but most of them were due to misconfigured options or misunderstanding of Magento internals (the documentation is very light at this time and some advices in the forums are sometimes out of date or not always relevant). Other problems were caused by real bugs, for instance :
- order information not passed to paypal
- poor default image compression
- unable to compare configurable products
- free shipping not set as unique method when available
...
We manage to identify the problems in the code every time but it’s always long and difficult, especially using a simple text editor 
Some other changes were made (adapt Tax system for France + export to non-EU countries (= no tax), pdf invoices for customers, carroussel style image gallery, tabs for product characteristics, ...). Everytime we managed to do what we wanted, that is the main asset of Magento !
The next 1.0.19700 release may sure fix most of the problems we encountered, we now have to test it on our development platform.
