Hello all:

If you had the ability to choose between Magento, Miva, osC, ZenCart - which would you choose. Each one, by my reckoning has great value and I am having issues deciding which to use. What I like about each:

Magento: graphically pleasing, multiple stores in one store, ajax, easy to customize
Miva: very robust and well documented
osC: great support community, somewhat easy to design around, user friendly
Zen: same as osC but better with features and easier to use

Beyond that, I would like to use ‘the one’ for a solution for other clients so it has to be a business decision as well.

Thanks for your help/guidance!

After many years of using osC, let me say this: be prepared to customise, customise, customise.

And by that I mean get up to your elbows in code, because in the current version so much of what you may want to customise is hidden in the code, and so many contributions change the code.

But as you say the osC community is HUGE so any changes you want you can normally find someone who has already done it and is willing to share.

I prefer Magento because of the multi-store capability as well as the nice default template. And it is fairly easy to navigate and use. The only drawback is it tends to run a bit slow at times. But despite that, I think it is the best e-commerce platform. smile

I personally think Magento has a lot going for it. I hope this helps!

I have been using Zen cart and grow most of my productive businesses out there just some sort of customizations, updating products category, descriptions, images and prices is very time consuming. But then I overcome my senses on doing so by switching to Magento, nothing compares Magento theme for business purposes “Yeah it provides business perspective for your clients the best of all” the multi process, default themes and the very friendly user installation process as well as very responsive community in any means of errors makes it perfect.

After all Magento has a big space for improvement but I know they have great ones already...The best eCommerce open source!
