I have already tried with chmod and base url as suggested.

Me too.. But I can’t upload images usually. If I select multiple images, one of them uploads successfully. But the others stuck / crash at the “Complete” message. So When I upload an image, I add extra blank images to upload the image what I want to upload. “media” dir is 0777. I tried “http” instead of “https”, but this time, the browse file button doesn’t work.

I’m still having trouble with it as well. It’s very, very frustrating.
At my house it works without a problem. I can upload and view the images. I even tried it at my brothers and it worked fine. However, at my office it does not work. I can’t upload images and when viewing the store thumbnail images don’t appear. Seems like it’s got something to do with configurations or firewalls.
Can someone please explain how to change the base url properly? Every time I try it fails and I have to reinstall magento from scratch...it’s really annoying. The enitre admin section stops working. What are you supposed to put for the base url. Should it be in the brackets or not? I have tried putting…
http://www.myurl.com
http://www.myurl.com/
{{http://www.myurl.com}}
{{http://www.myurl.com/}}
http://www.myurl.com/magento
http://www.myurl.com/magento/
{{http://www.myurl.com/magento}}
{{http://www.myurl.com/magento/}}
Everything seems to crash it. What should I put exactly and in which fields. UGH!

has anyone found a solution to this issue as yet?
I had an older test store built on pre v1.0 which was working fine - i uploaded all images to the store all was fine
now I have upgarded that store to the latest release i can no longer add images
i get to browse the product image file, click upload images - it says the upload is complete and if I hit save or save and continue to edit - i am logged out.
I have tried a fresh vanilla install today and same issue - all of the system works great apart from uploading images.
was anything changed in the version releases post v1.0?
i have tried ie, safari and firefox (latest versions) and same issue
given the amount of posts in this thread about the same issue, I get the impression this is quite an issue - has anyone reported a bug for it?

just found this bug that has been logged
http://www.magentocommerce.com/bug-tracking/issue?issue=2008
I am happy to let one of the magento team have access to my site / server if needed to look into the issue more.

OK - i resolved my issue
it must be specific to the host / php setup
i just changed 2 of my magento sites across to the compiled php cgi version and they are now working fine and uploading images ok.
not sure what it is about that version of php that is different that may affect this problem - but it would be good to know.

Glad to say that my problem is solved now.
Although i was having the latest adobe flash player as a plugin already installed,I reinstalled my adobe flash player as a plugin to my mozilla browser and lo behold it started uploading the product images.
Hope it helps someone.

Seems like we’ll never know if this problem is due to client or server configuration…
Good for you, anyway

I had this problem aswell.
I couldn’t upload files with Linux, but then I tried it with a windows computer, and that seems to work.
