Hello, i have the same problem of maciek79,
i can’t do anything on MagentoConnect, i have already this error:

Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in /home/...../public_html/downloader/Maged/Controller.php on line 149

I’m on PHP5, APACHE2

this problem is birht just after an upgrade of my Magento.

I am having this same problem too. After the upgrade, everything was fine as far as I noticed, and then I decided to try to install the modern theme from Magento Connect (through the downloader),
and once I refreshed, I got the following message:

Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in /homepages/41/d234982557/htdocs/magento/downloader/Maged/Controller.php on line 149

Now, everytime I go to mydomainname/downloader I get this fatal error. How to I fix this??

Apparently no one knows how to fix this??  :(

seems like nobody has an idea, but lots of users receive this problem!

This is the sort of issue that lets this project down - it’s a serious bug and quite a few people seem to be having it, so why no comment from the Magento team???

I’m also having a problem with the Downloader constantly stopping or freezing during an extension update. It killed my last installation and currently will not upgrade my current site. Unless this is an easy fix that I haven’t found.

Have you changed the file permissions? - they should be writeable (not ideal for production environments)

No, I didn’t change anything from their original permissions.  What has to be changed?

I think I am now running the most current versions right now but I’d like the feature to be flawless in the future if it is just permissions.  I thought what I downloaded on sunday was different than the release posted monday, but it was just made official then
