Problem with animated gif because of cache?

I have animated gifs of my products. Once uploaded the preview in the backend is still animated.
At the front however the animation is gone. The url used at the front is different from the backend, even though I have cache turned off, it seems this image is cached?

frontend: media/catalog/product/cache/1/image//3/d/3d.gif ( not animated )
backend: media/catalog/product/3/d/3d.gif ( animated )

Any ideas how to show the animated image at the front?

I don’t see how the cache would affect an animated gif. Do you have cache turned off globly or just for images? Also double check your cache settings, the syntax of the admin panel in that section can be a bit confusing.
Thanks,

We are trying to set up our new site and we are having problems with GIF images....I am trying to understand but I think there is a problem with Cache management or it might with the watermark. We have the watermark option working for all of our images?
How exactly do I get the GIF images to work properly?

Any update on this? I am having this same issue.  I would be happy converting all animated gifs to swf files if needed.  I just would like a solution to reduce the number of images I have on each product page.

Bumping up this thread.  Just ran into this problem and looking for a solution.  My client has several animated gifs to demonstrate some product functionality.  These GIFs work fine in his current shopping cart.  I definitely need this functionality.  If it isn’t supported, I’ll have to come up with a workaround.

I am not seeing this problem in my site.

1) Have you tried manually browsing to the image in the cache folder and checking if it is indeed an animated gif or if Magento has modified it somehow.

2) If it does display animated when you browse to it, does the hash match your original?

3) Can you replace the version of the image in your cache folder with the original and if so does it display animated on the site?

Any update on this? I am having this same issue.

Gif shows animated in backend but magento modifies it in the cache.

Any fixes? Could it be a Gd2 image compression issue?

Issue submitted here http://www.magentocommerce.com/bug-tracking/issue?issue=7003

It’s in the script not in animated gif

copy file from

path : app/code/core/Mage/Catalog/Model/Product/Image.php to

path : app/code/local/Mage/Catalog/Model/Product/Image.php (create folders if necessary)
Find the line public function getUrl() and replace the function with:

public function getUrl()
{
$baseDir = Mage::getBaseDir(’media’);
$file = (’gif’ == str(pathinfo($this->_baseFile, PATHINFO_EXTENSION))) ? $this->_baseFile : $this->_newFile;
$path = str_replace($baseDir . DS, “”, $file);
return Mage::getBaseUrl(’media’) . str_replace(DS, ‘/’, $path);
}

above code will help you to display animated gif images on product list as well as product view page....

May this will help you.

cheers..........................
