Most hosting providers should be able to cater for Magento but I run my own servers for maximum control - allowing me to adapt the server configuration to the sites it’s hosting.

Are you planning to host a large volume store or something a bit more modest?

I’m enjoying good performance from Magento-optimised ecommerce-focussed shared hosting at www.koowii.com.
Very reasonable price too.
Ask for Mick.

No interest apart from being a happy user.

I use Digital Pacific, and I’ve not had a single issue. I’m running a couple of VPS accounts with them, as PPs have said for the added flexibility.

dunno about fast or reliable but justhost.com charges $3.95 per month with unlimited disk and bandwidth and free domain registration - i’m just using it to stage my dev servers, may consider them when the site goes live.

advertising in cpanel for their extras is a pain tho…

We’ve offer specialised Magento hosting at M.D.G. IT. The issue with hosting Magento isn’t so much just being able to run it but running quickly enough to not put visitors off, or have people working with the back-end tearing their hair out.

Dedicating RAM to SQL and PHP opcode caches is the main factor in my experience. Hence anything more than a handful of users per node and everything grinds to a halt. Get in touch if you need solid, and above all fast, AU Mage hosting - we have developer packages starting at $10. Peter, M.D.G. IT

First, take into consideration that web hosting is a global service. It does not matter what country you are located in; US, UK, Canada, Australia or India. It is good to note that the cost of hosting services in most countries is generally a little more expensive in comparison to the same services in Canada and the United States. Specifically, American web hosts offer a much better value for money than any local hosting.

Choose a web host providing SimpleScripts. SimpleScripts provides easy one-click installation and management of over 70 of the web’s top applications, including Magento.

Vulgar and misleading, IMO

First, take into consideration that web hosting is a global service. It does not matter what country you are located in; US, UK, Canada, Australia or India.

The reality is that if you’re targetting an Australian audience, US hosting is just too slow. This is particularly true for a dynamic site like Magento, which has ~700ms pageloads at the best of times.

See here for more discussion of US vs AU hosting: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1355570#r10

The reality is easily testable - try comparing any reasonable Australian hosted Magento site with a US hosted site. The performance, for an Australian audience, is incomparable.

I am using KooWii‘s shared hosting for almost 5 month. I am very happy with the speed and technical support. Though what I am using is just a shared hosting ($25.45 per month), not VPS or dedicated server, but it really works great. I have more than 500 products, but with some help from KooWii’s support team, I can get 82 scores of YSlow test.
So for merchants targeting Australian market, I suggest taking a look at KooWii. They are great.

By the way, they also have hosting servers in US and other hosting options, such as VPS, but I haven’t tried that. I am happy with this $25.45 sharing hosting optimized for Magento.

Hi Neil,
We are looking at moving from our VPS based in the US to one in Australia and I like the “offer” from Koowii.  Just wondering how it was going with them and if your still happy.
Their example sites look to load very fast and I’m just sick of slow server times from the US, compared to what I hope I’ll get here is AU.
Thanks in advance.
Max
