where could i add my own controllers/models and how to access them?

if i were to add my own controllers and models, where would i place them and how would i access them?

I’m gonna take a stab at the answer and say that it should go in /app/code/community/ ... and possibly in a Mage directory inside there, but not for sure on that last part. I think you’d also have to modify the bootstrapper to load the classes or specify the directory as part of the loader. Does that make sense?

Use app/code/local/ for local modules.
app/code/community/ will be for community contributed/not certified modules.

And yes, you will need to update include_path either in .htaccess or in app/Mage.php to include this folder

Do I have to update local.xml ?
I still get 404 error when I add a new controller .
