To remove the product tags module (ie. not use product tags?  Admin->system->advanced-> Mage_Tag Disable

To remove a individual product tags? Admin->Catalog->Tags then delete the ones you don’t want

Is there a known method for administrators to add tags within the Admin panels rather than allow consumers to add them? If I disable the module entirely, do the contents still show up in the dashboard for customer accounts when they login?

Edit: Also seems that the location provided above to disable tags is absent from the menu? Has this been recently changed, or has a new method to disable it replace the previous method?

new location is here: System/Configuration/Advanced/Advanced

or add this to your base url:  admin/system_config/edit/section/advanced/

found this section very useful and managed to turn off pretty much everything I didn’t need/

Hmm, I’ve just disabled tags and poll in the admin. Poll no longer appears but tags still do...? Any ideas?

/* EDIT :

Just put comments inside tag.xml

EDIT */

same here, tags still showing on products page. I emptied the cache and desactivate it to be sure. Maybe a server delay ?

hi guys,
to prevent “the add your tags” and the tag list to show up in the product’s view you just have to comment out the app/design/frontend/default/default/template/tag/list.phtml file
hope this helps

To disable Product tags completely in Admin go to

System, Admin, and then under the advanced tab click “Advanced”. Then “Disable modules output”

Go to Mage_tag and change to disable..... Make sure you do this for every store view because it doesn’t change the other view even when you make it disabled by default.

Hi guys (and girls!),

I had the same issue as some of you:

Even after disabling the System --> Configuration --> Advanced --> Disable Mage_tab

... I still had the tags tab beneath the products.  I searched throughout all the files and also found where to comment-out the code in tags/list.phtml

Nothing worked.  There is always a solution though…

When all else fails, just add this into your CSS stylesheet:

#product_tabs_tags {
display: none;
}

Hope this helps.

Phil

The correct way to do it is to remove it from the tag layout file:

app/design/default/your_template/layout/tag.xml

Between the <default> tags you will see the popular tags block defined in the left column. Remove or comment this out.

Better, clean fix in local.xml :

<layout>
    <
catalog_product_view>

          <
reference name="product.info.additional">
              <
remove name="product_tag_list"/>
          </
reference>

    </
catalog_product_view>
</
layout>

g0ldstein, Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I put this snippet of code in my catalog.xml and that worked too:

<reference name="product.info.additional">
  <
remove name="product_tag_list"/>
</
reference>
I try to avoid editing the local.xml unless I really have to.
