This isn’t really considered Flat Rate, I realize, but I wasn’t sure what to call it.

I need to be able to set shipping to be a certain rate per order amount, for example:

Up to $50.00 = $9.00 shipping
$50.01--$75.00 = $11.00 shipping

and so forth.  Does anyone know how to do this with Magento?

I thought i might be Table Rates but I can’t see a way to set it up like that.

Table rates will do it.  The trick is to make sure that “Current Configuration Scope” at the top left is set to “Main Website” instead of “Default Config”.  Once you do that, you will see an “Export CSV” button.  Click on that and it will give you a CSV file that you can edit to fill in your shipping rates.  When you are done with the file, save it, then load it into Magento using the Import field.

See “known issues” of release notes v1.0:

Table rate shipping is currently not functioning. A patch will be released in the next few days.
