Anyone out there working on an X-Cart migration tool? I suspect there are quite a few X-Cart users who would happily jump ship to Magento if one was available (many will without it, but many more would with it).
Thanks for the update, Roy. Through a quick search I didn’t see any news of this in the forum or elsewhere - is it being developed by the Magento team, or community developers?
Any progress on the X-cart Migration tool? I’d love to move some of our clients over to Magento but need to be able to Migrate their year of customer data over as well.
Still no update? I’d love to hear if the Magento team is working on this.
Roy Rubin mentioned that it was “in the works” 10 months ago. I do hope that means it will be ready soon.
Just export your products in X-Cart, move the image to the Magento media/import and reformat the product data for Magento.... I use to move 10k+ product stores from X-Cart to other carts and with the exception of some MySQL adjustments, most sites can be moved over within a few hours to one day. BTW… X-Cart really sucked. I used it for 4 years and never got anywhere with it.
Users are tricky as data is encrypted and so forth. A client had a LightCommerce to X-Cart migration tool a couple years ago and that was able to do it, so I think the users can’t be that difficult to move… people do it all the time with phpBB and vBulletin and others so it is possible.
There are pros and cons to every application but the biggest con with X-Cart is that it is consistently buggy and managed by three guys who don’t car very much about the quality of their coding. Their entire servicing is outsourced and they got very expensive in the last couple of years with many price increases.
