Magneto looks great however the problem, it seems, everyone is having (including myself) is the lack of support for a number of payment gateways. I’ve spent the best part of 2 hours looking around the forum and reading about various payment gateways but there doesn’t seem to be a poll.
This, I think would be a useful to know what the most popular payment gateways are for anyone who might be interesting in developing payment modules for magneto.
So here it is, I’ve tried to include the payment gateway that have been mentioned the most as I can only add 12 options to the poll.
Here is a list of ones that only got mentioned once or twice and didn’t make the cut, sorry:
SOGENACTIF, Moneris, Ogon, Linkpoint, DINEROMAIL, Secpay, Datacash, webtopay, CyberSource, Linkpoint, Moneybookers, Luupay, pay be phone.
If you think I’ve missed any out or believe that one of the gateways that didn’t make the cut should have done please make yourself heard below.
I agree that there needs to be more supported payment methods. But I think it is a job of the community now. Varien did really a great job with the support for a lot of payment modules in the first stable release. (More then osCommerce handle in there 3.0 release out-of-the-box.)
The first stable release of Magento was just a week ago. I know there are some modules being developed by the community right now. So I am convinced that within a few months, the most used payment modules are supported by community contributions.
However, I think it would be useful for community members who have clients using a variety of payment gateways with no immediate desire to move to Magneto (like myself), but still want to start developing payment modules for Magneto; just don’t know which one would benefit the community the most.
I also think that it would be interesting just to see which payment gateway is most used in this open source community, many of which seems to have some from oscommerce.

I think it is also depending on the country where the shop is launched. In the Netherlands we have iDEAL for payments wich is very very populair. A Dutch shop without it won’t make it to the top. I guess there are more payment methods that are very populair in a specific country.
“the most used payment modules are supported by community contributions”
as that is akin to a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Well, this is the way open-source software works, or at least should work. Need an extention? Create one yourself and contribute it to the community.
And I’m confused by the messages on the forums like “I want this and that, and I need it realy fast, for free and I don’t know anything about programming/software development.”
how about some standard stuff from other countries? before adding special stuff from only one part of the world?
EXACTLY. Wide adoption of Magento would be best served by adding/helping-the-community-add support for the main gateway in the other popular countries. US-based operations are already well-served here.
