This is a bit old, but figured I’d respond anyway.

First, I’d also like to know how to stop products from expiring (at least to extend the expiration date before the products actually expire)

The way to manually fix this is as follows though:
Once the items expire, go to Catalog->Google Base-> Manage Items

1. Select all, Synchronize
2. At the bottom (view available products): Select all, Add to google base
3. At top: Select All, Publish

I believe you may be able to skip steps 1 and 2, but I haven’t tested it.

Do I have to wait until it expired? Is there any way I can renew it (extend 30 days) before it expire?

Thanks for your help.
Daniel

This drove me crazy - mageno’s google base still leaves a lot to be desired.  :(
To make it update the expires date for products when you resubmit (publish) them again..

EDIT: My fix also left everything to be desired, It only updated the date in magento, not in google base… and google base is all that we care about.

The only way I have found to accomplish changing the Magento Google Base expire date is to delete the products in Magento Google Base then re add them. This is are real pain especially if you have a lot of products. I do a few hundered a week whenever I think about so they all don’t expire at the same time. Any body have a better way to change the Google Base expiration date?

Here’s the only way I’ve found to do it:

1. Connect to your database
2. Run a query like this:

UPDATE googlebase_items SET expires = ‘2010-11-15 18:41:23’

(change the date to the one you desire - i just bump up the month field a number or two, it’s “11” in the example above)

then select your items in the admin section and hit “publish”.

@ickidwell - thanks for this info. I gave your suggestion a try. What i found is:

1) For any products that were already expired on google base this had no effect.
2) For active google base products the expires dates appear to get set to 1 week in the future rather than the date you set in the magento database.

I’m not sure if you have seen exactly the same results as I, but would be interested to hear your experiences. It would be great to update any nearly expired products say every 28 days, just b4 they drop off. This would ensure that products stay active for as long as possible. i am currently thinking of setting up a scheduled job to perform the required update of expiry date in the magento database and google base, updating for any product that will expire in less than 24 hours and run it on a daily basis.

I really hate to bump an old thread, but has anyone found a solution to this problem. It really gets old having to wait for the products to expire, delete over 1000 products a month, and then re-add them to GB.

I’ll second your bump.
Having to manually make CSV files because magento can’t do something as simple as update the damn expiration date (Which is a valid variable per the google docs: http://www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?answer=188494) is unacceptable.

Oh I’m sorry, I forgot that Magento and Paypal are such good budies. Ever noticed how paypal issues get fixed right away, and by default Magento is covered in Paypal links, while it takes 6 months to fix a critical Google Checkout bug, and this Google MERCHANT CENTER (Magento still calls it “Base") bug has been in since ..... ever?

Going to bump this.
The brand new “Google Content” module still has this same issue. Items have to be deleted and re-added every 30 days.
