I don’t believe there is a quick fix for this other than to remove the references to Wishlist,Compare, etc. from your template/theme files.
It would probably be best for you to make a copy of default and begin hacking at that to trim out the features included in it that you don’t want.

Hi nafnaf,

you’ll find in the products/view/type/xxx.phtml files the following lines:

<?php if( $this->helper('wishlist')->isAllow() || $_compareUrl=$this->helper('catalog/product_compare')->getAddUrl($_product)): ?>

<strong><?php echo $this->__('OR'?></strong>

<?php endif; ?>

Best is to first copy the file in your own template then to drop this sentence.

Gr,

Charles

You should also disable the modules in the admin:

Under System -> Advanced -> Mage_Review (etc.)

That should stop anyone from stumbling on it as well.

This works with reviews and with the wishlist, but where can I disable the compare mode?

Ah so I see Casper. There are a few threads about removing the compare feature, which all seem to say it is a manual process: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/3405/

Manually you can delete it from here:
app/design/frontend/default/default/template/catalog/product/list.phtml

remove this from list mode as well as grid mode:

<p class="add-to">
<?php if ($this->helper('wishlist')->isAllow()) : ?>
<a href="<?php echo $this->helper('wishlist')->getAddUrl($_product) ?>” class="link-cart"><?php echo $this->__('Add to Wishlist') ?></a>
<?php endif; ?>
<?php if($_compareUrl=$this->getAddToCompareUrl($_product)): ?>
<span class="pipe">|</span>
<a href="<?php echo $_compareUrl ?>"><?php echo $this->__('Add to Compare') ?></a>
<?php endif; ?> </p>

Why don’t you just comment out the lines in the layout XML files?  That would be the cleanest way possible, or do an <unset> for the feature in the layout update XML.

Which layout XML file contains the lines for the products?  I looked in catalog.xml and few others but couldn’t find anything.

I was using an old version of the catalog.xml file that didn’t have the references to the add-to template.  Sorry about the confusion!

Here is what I suggest:

Remove or comment out the lines below from addto.phtml
Full path to this file: \app\design\frontend\default\default\template\catalog\product\view\addto.phtml

<?php if($_compareUrl=$this->helper('catalog/product_compare')->getAddUrl($_product) ): ?>
<li><span class="pipe">|</span> <a href="<?php echo $_compareUrl ?>"><?php echo $this->__('Add to Compare') ?></a></li>
<?php endif; ?>

The above will remove the link form Product Detail page.

To remove it from the Category - Catlog listing page do the following:

Remove or comment out the lines below from \app\design\frontend\default\default\template\catalog\product\list.phtml
In list.phtml you’ll have to do it twice ‘cos there are two instances of p class="add-to" once for grid mode and once for list mode.

Just search for (p class="add-to") in list.phtml

<?php if($_compareUrl=$this->getAddToCompareUrl($_product)): ?><br/>
<a href="<?php echo $_compareUrl ?>"><?php echo $this->__('Add to Compare') ?></a>
<?php endif; ?>

I have tried other suggestions, and I found this relatively easy.  Refresh your cache is but I don’t think there is an easy way out.

Remember: When you upgrade you’ll have to do this again.

If someone has an easier way of doing this, kindly post in detail.

I hope this helps..

I have disabled “Wishlist” in the admin control panel but it still appears in my store!

What’s the deal with this crazy program?

Why wouldn’t they also give us an option to remove the “Compare” option? It’s just plain stupid for our company to have a compare items option for the products that we sell.

You can do it as alistek suggested, in the wishlist.xml file, comment out or simply remove this for the quick access menu.

<reference name="top.links">
<block type="wishlist/links" name="wishlist_link">
<action method="addWishlistLink"></action>
</block>
</reference>

for sidebar, just comment out the second set in the same file.

The same goes to Compare, just use a <remove name="catalog.compare.sidebar" /> in the left or right reference name in the <default>..</default> if you want to eliminate it from the site, in catalog.xml file.

This is how I did it. I switched on Template Hints to know where the links where coming in from to make changes.

To remove them from product view page, comment out the “Add to” parts in app/design/frontend/default/default/template/catalog/product/view/addto.phtml:

<ul class="add-to-box">
<?php if ($this->helper('wishlist')->isAllow()) : ?>
<!-- <li><a href="<?php echo $this->helper('wishlist')->getAddUrl($_product) ?>">
<?php echo $this->__('Add to Wishlist'?></a></li> -->
<?php endif; ?>
<?php
if($_compareUrl=$this->helper('catalog/product_compare')->getAddUrl($_product) ): ?>
<!-- <li><span class="pipe">|</span> <a href="<?php echo $_compareUrl ?>">
<?php echo $this->__('Add to Compare'?></a></li> -->
<?php endif; ?>
</ul>

As opposed to deleting the code completely.

To remove the “Add to Wishlist” and “Add to Compare” from new products, go to app/design/frontend/default/default/template/catalog/product/new.phtml, and search for “add to”. The comment out those parts, like so:

<class="add-to">
<?php if ($this->helper('wishlist')->isAllow()) : ?>
<!-- <a href="<?php echo $this->getAddToWishlistUrl($_product) ?>" class="link-cart">
<?php echo $this->__('Add to Wishlist'?></a> -->
<?php endif; ?>
<?php
if($_compareUrl=$this->getAddToCompareUrl($_product)): ?><br />
<!-- <
a href="<?php echo $_compareUrl ?>">
<?php echo $this->__('Add to Compare'?></a> -->
<?php endif; ?>
</p>

Hopefully it’ll work for you.
