I know it is a rookie question but i need to know what is the “expresion” “$this->” used for?

i need to use something like that:

i m trying to create a payment module and i need to generate a password using a program in unix that the bank sent to me its name is calculo

and i need to put something like that:

$string = “./calculo $Clave $MerchantID $AcquirerBIN $TerminalID $Num_operacion $Importe $Tipomoneda $Exponente \"\" “;
$resultado = exec($string);

calculo is i root directory but i dont know what i need to do to call calculo to generate the password

this is the code i have so far:

if($this->getConfigData('signaturetype') == 2){
            $merchurl
$this->getConfigData('merchanturl');

$transtype = (int)$this->getConfigData('merchanttransactiontype');

$message "$amount$ord$code$currency$transtype$merchurl$clave"

else {
            $message
"$amount$ord$code$currency$clave";

}
        $signature
= ./calculo($message);

Any advise?
