Hello,
we want to run a magento installation with 2 servers:

App-Server and DB-Server, each 4 GB RAM, dual core processor.

All performance optimizations are made (tmpfs, flat catalog, mod_deflat, ...)

Today we made a load test simulating 60 users.

It was terrible. Server stopped working after 5 mintutes. Our provider had to reboot the system!

I think that one of our problem is, that we have 5500 configurable and 17000 simple products and 600 categories.

Do you think it is possible to get our system running well with this config.

Or which config would be advised?

Thanks. klaus.

double your memory to your db server
control the web server memory for php via php.ini and limit the session time, and the memory per user & action

Just a few quickies:

Use Memcached for backend/session caching instead of tmpfs for you var catalog.
Disable open_basedir

Ensure you have proper config between your apache connections and mysql connections.

You have a vast number of options to optimize your MySQL Server.

there are some tool for analyzing that. example: mysqltuner.pl
