Thank you for that reply.
So for the moment, there is no other way to turn it on than editing pages and inserting the code ? That may be a problem with upgrading Magento to a new version (I suppose it will replace files)…
That’s a shade that there is no simpler way to activate it.

We are attempting to install a WYSIWYG - but no luck yet. It would be nice to have this feature, especially for our novices, we’re just retailers, not geeks, and need to focus on selling, not taking computer language courses LOL

Doesn’t sound like much of a problem to do, provided you are talkning about wysiwyg on a per article basis. I can strongly recommend tinyMCE and I assume this is what Magento will end up using, am I right? Anyways, you could easily and unobtrusively insert highly configurable tinyMCE instances on pretty much any textfield (or other container for that matter) by using a separate javascript loader. Doing it like this it will not interfere or clash at all, whatsoever with the magento code. Lots of good examples and documentation can be found at:

I still think that it would be great to have an easy way to activate WYSIWYG under magento (why not a simple thick box in the Backend configuration ?)…
I also tried to install TinyMCE and FCKEditor, but I had problem for both of them, and I guess I am not the only one…

Until WYSIWYG hopefully will be integrated into Magento, you could try using a HTML Editor such as CoffeeCup HTML Editor 2008.
Download the Product description (the product page for the select product) to the HTML Editor, format your product description in the HTML Editor, and paste the final result back into the Magento backend Product Descriptions page.
It is quite easy, and it gives you a lot of “new possibilites”.
