Hi @ all!

Unfortunately facing an error while trying to access the Magento Connect Manager:

Error message:

Unknown error (8192): Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\downloader\pearlib\php\PEAR\Frontend.php on line 90
Trace:
#0 C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\lib\Varien\Pear.php(28): mageCoreErrorHandler(8192, ‘Assigning the r...’, ‘C:\xampp\htdocs...’, 90, Array)

#9 C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\index.php(65): Mage::run()
#10 {main}

In line 90 the file says:

$obj = &new;$uiclass;

This is a local installation on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Using Apache Friends XAMPP (Basis Package) version 1.7.2
With Magento 1.3.2.3

The customizing done before was:

1) editing the Http.php

$host explode(':'$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']);
in line 274
2) editing the Object.php
public function __invoke(array $arrAttributes = array(), $valueSeparator=',')
in line 484
3) switching on the curl extension in the php.ini
extension=php_curl.dll
4) editing the index.php error report section
/**
 * Error reporting (old: E_ALL | E_STRICT)
 */
error_reporting(0);

I found someone posting this problem before (with a lot of further entries in the problem trace), but there haven’t been any replys.

Anyone any idea on that? Thanks in advance.

I think this might help :

completely deleted the root “downloader/” directory and uploaded a new “downloader/” directory from a fresh magento install

i have had many issues with the modern theme extension installation through magento connect, you can read more here,
resolving issues with magento connect modern theme installation

regards,
deskartez

Unfortunately the replacement of the downloader-directory did not solve the problem.
The error still exists.

Anymore ideas?

But thanks again deskartez!
