Hi! Can anyone tell me the correct file permissions that should be set in Magento, particularly for files in the root directory? (ie: index.php and .htaccess)

I see most of mine are 705, some 604.

Shouldnt they be 755???

Thanks in advance!

Hi Caricell,

I struggled with this for a while when first working with Magento.

My best advice is to download this cleanup tool:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/groups/227/resetting_file_permissions

It goes through all of your files and folders and sets the right permissions.

Failing that, this article will help:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/magento_filesystem_permissions

In summary:

664 for files and 775 for folders. 775 for files will work too.

Hi,

It all depends on the setup of the server hosting your site. Are they using FastCGI, SUPHP or have other security measures installed.
You can ask your hosting company what the best setting is.
