Hello everybody,

I designed and have been developing our new company site with Magento since August 2007, which can been seen at http://www.mobileedgedev.com.  Today I looked at our analytics and noticed some traffic from http://manofino.com/, which is a blatant ripoff of our new site design.  So much so that even the footer links still have the mobileedgedev.com URL.

As this community grows, I highly suggest NOT copying other people’s designs.  Taking ideas or ‘inspiration’ from other sites is fine, but don’t copy and paste the code and use it as your own.

Since there doesn’t seem to be any contact info on this site, how do you suggest I contact them to have them remove our design?  We will be launching our new site within a week or two and I don’t want people to associate their site with ours.

Haha, way to post the WHOIS.  I second Ze F, your design looks very professional.  Theirs looks like a rough hack.  Regardless, it will happen - but good luck with stopping them!

Looks great! nice job. And that rip is not too great, I wouldn’t worry about it much.

Quick suggestion for ya. Im using FF and noticed you are not using the image zoom in slider thingie on your product pages (http://www.mobileedgedev.com/mens-laptop-bags/laptop-backpacks/alienware-deluxe-backpack.html) I would recommend changing the CSS style to not use the arrows on image hover. Just a though

I don’t know the legality of copying themes or how copyright works but…

Someone might say you should look through your logs for a IP address that visits your site on a regular basis and is geographically located near the information posted above, then marry that up with the forum logs here and that might give you a username…

Look right above their copyright information.

I think I would contact them with some fairly strong legalistic language and tell them to cease and desist immediately.

Unbelieveable.  Way to call this guy out, gang!  Some people have no pride.

Your site looks great. I went into the rip off site and it looks as thought they have fixed the contact link and you might be able to at least send them a message. Likely they will ignore you since they are ripping you off, but it is worth a shot. Great job though on your site.

LOL, that is exactly the reason why a rip-off is a RIP OFF, folk like this can’t do superb job except copy-catting.

By the way, the gs from (mt) loads very slow. I have one Magento design installed on my gs account and the speed suffers too. My cilent’s site on hostgator loads much faster.

Just notice he uses Magento too. Hmmm, giving him a benefit of doubt, he may be mistaken you distributed your design theme.
