php5-cgi file spreading like germ

Not really sure what this file is, but why do i have so many versions of it? Thanks!

the file is the compiled version of php5 - i assume this is the magento supplied version and not one you have compiled - it is used for running php5 on certain hosts and server configurations that do not support all magento php requirements (e.g. are running php4).

never seen the file duplicate like that , but - it appears to be in the incorrect place for a start - it should be in the cgi-bin folder

I know those 1.1.1. etc extensions are what linux adds when it rotates a log file, adds another .1 to each old one as it rotates in a new one. How that would be happening to this file I don’t know, but thats the only place I have ever seen those extesnions, is on rotated files.
