I have been trying to install Magento on my hosting at http://www.catosplace.net/magento/ for the past few weeks with no real success.

I have got the magento-check.php script installed at http://www.catosplace.net/magento-check.php.

As can be seen from the link - I get a ‘No Input File Specified’ on the page.

I have installed the full version, tried the SSH install (actually have the DB set up), tried the downloader and now have the full version installed again. - This is a shared hosting environment which uses Apache. If anyone is willing to help with my issue I can send a link to a phpinfo page.

I have set the permissions as per the installation guide and in the .htaccess file have set the RewriteBase to /magento/.

Please let me know if you can help or I can provide information to aid in provision of help.

Thanks.

Pete.

Sorry to break this to you pete but Magento really doesn’t work well on a shared hosting environment ... its an enterprise product. I would suggest you either use a dedicated server or a powerful VPS. If that is outside your budget I would recommend you look at oscommerce or something similar.

I would disagree with what has been said above. My shared hosting provides me with access to all the files I have seen mentioned on these forums for issues with set up etc. It is a very flexible shared hosting, and the support provided by them is fantastic.

They have checked the PHP version and added the libraries required which were not installed, checked my .htaccess and the apache configuration for the AllowOverride function.

I am trying to evaluate the project on my own hosting for use on some commercial sites which will have there own hosting. I was told this was a great product and wanted to have a go at seeing what was viable before splashing out on enterprise level support.

I notice some of the installation guides are for shared hosting sites from what I know - so don’t believe this dosen’t work in such an environment.

Well the error code looks very weird. From your magento-check.php file I noticed that it says that you do not have the required MySQL version to use Magento. Is that the case? I will advise you to check with your hosting provider on the reason that Magento does not work on their server.

Thanks for taking the time to look at the issue.

I have got the hosting service looking in to the issues now. Was just posting here to see if anyone else had experienced the issue.

The hosting service are usually excellent at sorting out these kind of issues and I am sure they will be able to help me get it going.

When they do I shall let everyone know what the issue was. As for the MySQL version I noted that - as I do have a new version 5 instance loaded with the magento sample data at the moment.
