Based on this

I’m referring to the enabling Magento extensions ,

Magento Admin > Systems > Manage Extensions > Manage Extensions

Error: Please check for sufficient write file permissions

Your Magento folder does not have sufficient write permissions, which this web based downloader requires.

If you wish to proceed downloading Magento packages online, please set all Magento folders to have writable permission for the web server user (example: apache) and press the “Refresh” button to try again.

Does that mean i have to cmod all the folders ?

example all this

VAR
APP
JS
PKGINFO
REPORT
LIB
DOWNLOADER

?

or is there a manual instalation method ?
maybe thats where the new magento website take place ?

Thanks guys
Magento is great!

The following folders and files need write permissions:

magento/var/.htaccess
magento/app/etc, magento/var
All the directories under magento/media

I got this info from:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/mediatemple_installation_guide_-_dedicated-virtual_server

(It is helpful for all installs, not just dedicated servers)

I’m also having a similar permissions problem.  Why aren’t the permissions automatically set out of the box?  I wish their were detailed permissions instructions to take the guess work out of this.

Hello everyone,

I’m working with the version 1.0 of Magento and I’m also getting the same message error “Error: Please check for sufficient write file permissions” when trying to access the manage extensions. Magento Admin > Systems > Manage Extensions.

I’ve check the folders persmissions folders and files as explain in the page:

But still not working…

Thanks for your help.
