Umm.. Web 2.0 is not the same as AJAX. rasberry

I don’t think that filling a store up with ajax components out of the box is very wise. It’s javascript nevertheless and as I know much javascript -> slower site.

I also think that ajax frameworks will come as an option to magento through community. smile

As much as we’d love to have more “Ajax” (although its mostly javascript) in Magento, the reality is that there are serious cross browser and plaform issues. In fact, we scaled back much of the cool functionality so we can get Magento to work on as many platforms as possible. In the future and once a stable release is available, we can add the bells and whistles to make it more hip.

Couldn’t you use one of the AJAX frameworks that tests for cross-platform compatibility?

There are issues with many of them and compatibility - we are using script.aculo.us (prototype)

Ah, so it’s a matter of certain features not being cross-platform? And by that you mean IE smile

This is a template thing.  Since stores shouldn’t be encouraged to use the default template, this should be a non-issue.  Since Roy said the team ran into cross-browser problems, I would rather them work on the core and ignore the Web 2.0 crap for right now :D

only ajax i would like to see is for managing products and categories with drag and drop in the backend.
that would be a real value.

I agree with (the other) Brandon.  I want a stable data model, first, period.  All features can wait, especially nifty doodads.  (Second is a working Authorize.net payment gateway, and third is import/export.  Then I’m good to go.)
