you Magento guys are saying all the right things.

Can’t wait to see the final result, but if you make it easy for osCommerce stores to migrate...we will migrate smile

Coming from X-Cart, I’d say, forgot the import for now, focus on the codebase and get it stable, import tools can come later on after the fact… Surely most of us here know how to do a MySQL export/import via CSV…

Unfortunately, there is no set date. We certainly look forward to releasing this within the next 90 days prior to the production release.

Hope this helps.

Is there an update on product import feeds similar to “Easy Populate” in osCommerce? I’m thinking of shops with thousands of products which would take too long to set up manually. Of course, also drop-shipper feeds. At the moment Easy Populate is hugely popular as it offers a simple way to import / update the shop.

Will there be a similar feature in Magento?

UPDATE:
wink completely overlooked the Data Flow announcement - answered all my queries and more.

Is there any plan to migrate attributes?  Because osc, cre, and Zen Cart all allow types of attributes which at this point aren’t compatible with Magento.  How is that going to work?

Something that may get around customer import.. (just thinking) What if you setup simple import (name, email login) no adress, and trigger new password or some blurb telling customers to go through to lost password and regenerate new codes sent via email. it would get around the oscommerce algarythm (password generator). It seems advanced profile import could help towards the import while mapping fields?  Im a noob with importing exporting profiles but magento seems to have all the tools just working out a methodical way of executing the imports from oscommerce.

Cheers guys…
(Got Paypal standard working and im manually rebuilding shipping tables with worldwide postage codes and prices then im done!)

@i960: yes, password hashes will be transferred, and they would be validated using OSCommerce password hash algorithm.

Moshe, how do you plan on doing this?  I had read that getting passwords out of oscommerce was not possible.  I need to migrate a set of users to a different application this week and was planning on having to reset all the passwords.

Is Data Flow they way to “import” a osCommerce database or will there be a more advanced tool in the near future to import orders and other stuff?

The import tool will be released on Magento Connect with the release of the new community site, which is coming very soon.

i really need this yesterday

im actually a bit disappointed that this was not discussed and looking at post it has been disregarded for a while now

this is an important feature, i have a site re-design that i really dont want to put into one of the other solutions and the import looks to be fairly difficult

while i have got the products imported into a few other solutions via SQL commands alone, the table structure is fairly complex and complicates the idea of moving the products and categories much less the users into Magento

i am willing to dedicate time in the development of this, can a dev PM me what I can do to help at this moment?

As Chris mentioned right above your post, an osCommerce import tool will be available by the end of the week.
