I have just upgraded Magento to verision 1.3.1.2 from 1.3

Every page I go to I get a 500 Internal Server Error.

[Mon Jun 22 12:06:57 2009] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File “/home/mydomain/public_html/store/index.php” is writeable by group
[Mon Jun 22 12:06:56 2009] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] File does not exist: /home/mydomain/public_html/500.shtml

I have tried to replace the old .htaccess file and index.php file in the root directory but nothing is helping.

Please let me know what I can do

Thank you,.

I solved this problem.

I had to change the permision of the index.php file to 0644

And the whole site worked again!

I am still getting the 500 Internal Server Error.  Do you have to reinstall magento again?

Hi there,

I have fix my issue of 500 error by looking at the error log and it says:
(.htaccess: Option FollowSymLinks not allowed here). So I disable it by putting a # at the command. Now I finally can view the setup page. smile

Thank you.

I had the Internal Server Error message trying to install Magento.  I also commented out a similar line in my .htaccess (#Options +FollowSymLinks) and then my install ran like a champ.  Similarly, product images were not showing up (browsing to the image URLS gave Internal Server Error messages), so I ended up commenting out 3 lines with Options in my media/.htaccess as well.

My site crashed while trying to do a backup from the admin panel. CHaning the file permission of he index.php file to 0644 through the ftp client really saved me!!

Didn’t help for me,

But deleting/commeting the follow Options +FollowSymLinks did work (on line 116)

change

Options +FollowSymLinks

into

# Options +FollowSymLinks
