I tried to install Magento 0.8.17240 on my local server following the Magento E-Commerce Solution On Debian Etch How To.  It goes all ok until the command:

./pear install mage-core/Mage_All mage-core/Interface_Install_Default.

When I give it I have the follows messages:

Starting to download Mage_All-0.8.17240.tgz (1,969,565 bytes)
.......................................done: 1,969,565 bytes
downloading Interface_Install_Default-0.8.17240.tgz ...
Starting to download Interface_Install_Default-0.8.17240.tgz (112,164 bytes)
...done: 112,164 bytes

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 8192 bytes) in /var/www/magento/lib/pear/php/PEAR/Installer.php on line 539

I tried to increase the memory_limit in the /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini file changing it two time, the first at 32M and the second to 64M, but with the same result.

Attached the phpinfo.php output

May anybody help me? Many thanks.

Hi, I just had the same problem

This worked for me, hope it works for you as well

Increase the memory limit in /etc/php5/cli/php.ini as well and restart apache.

Cheers.
