I agree.  I can’t find the way to change the /admin directory to something else.  It’s not in the .htaccess or any of the config.xml files I tried changing.

For security reasons, I’d like to move the admin to another location or better yet, another domain.

Any ideas?

Edit local.xml, add before </config> :

<admin>
        <
routers>
            <
adminhtml>
                <
args>
                    <
frontName>anothername</frontName>
                </
args>
            </
adminhtml>
        </
routers>
    </
admin>

It’s not working for me.
I tried to modify the file in app/etc/local.xml
Even the file in app/core/Mage/Adminhtml/etc/config.xml line :

<admin>
<routers>
<adminhtml>
<use>admin</use>
<args>
<module>Mage_Adminhtml</module>
<frontName>admin</frontName>
</args>
</adminhtml>
</routers>
</admin>

but without success ...

Of course, I delete cache.

in app/core/Mage/Adminhtml/etc/config.xml you’ve changed <frontName>admin</frontName> to <frontName>anothername</frontName> and it didn’t work?

weird, both work for me

Ok, I bother you for nothing ...sorry.

I tried to modify <use> and <frontName> in same time.
The correct way is to change frontName only.

in 1.1.1 you can change the admin url from within the system config. its in the admin page of the advanced tab, right down the bottom.

This would be great if I could access the admin panel wink

goto the downloader (domain.com/magento/downloader) and reinstall all the core components. or if they are not listed install the following extension key

magento-core/Mage_Core_Modules

that should work.

I did that, the console gave me this message:

“Ignoring installed package magento-core/Mage_Core_Modules
Nothing to install”

I checked my site anyway and I still cant access the admin. I get this PHP error:

“Fatal error: Call to a member function findFirstAvailableMenu() on a non-object in /home/xxxx/domains/www.xxxxxxxxxx.com/html/app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/controllers/IndexController.php on line 36”

Oops! Help! I tried to put {{base_url}}myadmin/ in the admin url and now I can not access to my admin pages to be able to change it, any idea where magento stores this detail so I can manually put it back. I looked at etc/config.xml or local.xml it is not there and I can’t find it in core_config_data tables either.

Thanks a lot.

Ron

i did this on 1.1.3 and now i get a 404 error...grrr....how can i restore it back?

*edit* for some reason when i turn this on it adds web/secure/base_url (config 337) and web/unsecure/base_url (config 338) as two new fields in the mag_core_config_data table...once i remove those redundant (and incorrect) pieces I can get back into admin

How do I refresh config cache (ofcourse when I do not have access to the admin panel - same problem as above)

Thanks, M.
