Hi Ethan, I have exactly the same problem. I have spent hours going through the forums but havent found and answer.

Joost de Valk launched recently a brand new section on Magento SEO on his website: http://yoast.com/articles/magento-seo/
I was hoping that the isse about dynamic urls would be covered but it wasnt. I am also stuck like you as the engines are going to be indexing all those ugly urls and am not sure it is a good idea to block out via robots.txt becasue at the end of the day, they are part of the website sitemap visible to the engines.

if somebody has an answer to this, I would be most grateful to hear about it.

cheers
david

Try using the ‘Add Store Code to Urls’ option.

System > Configutration > Wen > Url Options

Thanks for the help. I have tried this but still URL’s are dynamic. Is there any way that I can hide the query string parameters from the user?
OR any other ways to make URL’s Static?
