Hi Guys

When we are making major updates to the store i would like to beable to turn it off (for the hour or so to make the changes)

Is this possible?

There is no option in the admin at the moment to put site under construction
You can easily do it by redirecting the site via .htaccess to some temp page.

Fine and dandy, but not everyone’s webhost allows them to use .htaccess files.

If, on the other hand, you don’t install magento in the root directory, you can put whatever front page you want up. That is what I am doing.

Of course, it would also be nice to have a turn off the store option, so I’m bumping this thread
