Install issue

I have tried installing more than 20 times and looked all of the forums for fixes to try but nothing is working. The issue that I am having is that everytime I try to install using xfcs.net/magento/install it takes me to my main index page which I have setup as my phpinfo. I am using godaddy shared with php5.2.5 and you can see my phpinfo by going to xfcs.net. I have also tried using the config.xml replacement that I have found in the forums but that gives me a Mage_Core_exception ‘Invalid base dir type specified: code’. Any help is greatly appeciated. Thank you

How did you set up the phpinfo to be yuor index page?
Did you modify the .htaccess file?

I keep getting an error when I try to do the install wizard.  It says ‘No input file specified.’ and the URL goes from

http://whyworkforever.org/magento/

to

http://whyworkforever.org/magento/index.php/install/

Can anyone help me out?

I’m not able to reproduce the error in our environment.
Did you try solutions available on google?

http://www.google.com/search?q=php+cgi+"No+input+file+specified"

reddsimpson, if I get this, you got a phpinfo at xfcs.net/index.php and installed magento at xfcs.net/magento/. Going to xfcs.net/magento/install goes back to the root to show phpinfo.... Can you check the base rewrite is set properly inside the .htaccess in the xfcs.net/magento/ folder? Your rewrite is probably not set correctly somewhere along the lines. Best thing I can think of. XD

TJNevis, I think you got a rewrite conflict somewhere. It is hard to tell unless we know how you installed your magento especially since you got a root redirect going already to /tjnevis/

This is the document root on my server
/home/content/w/h/y/whyworkforever/html

and magento is

/home/content/w/h/y/whyworkforever/html/magento

I am only using rewrite on in the .htacces file of magento and I am using RewriteBase /magento/

TJNevis, I also can replicate that issue and I noticed that the outcome is different if you put a slash or dont at the end of the URL. Also by the looks of your doc. root you are using GoDaddy am I correct? If so, than the fix for your issues will more than likely be the fix for mine more.

TJNevis, I just tried your site using “http://whyworkforever.org/magento/install” like I stated above and it takes you to your main sites index page, so we both definitly are having the issue. BTW nice site.

My links
xfcs.net/magento/install - Takes you to the index page of the main site.
xfcs.net/magento/install/ - States no input file for FF and 404 error for IE

TJNevis links
whyworkforever.org/magento/install - Takes you to the index page of the main site.
whyworkforever.org/magento/install/ - States no input file for FF and 404 error for IE

I found the fix, place the following right below “RewriteRule .* index.php [L]”:

RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-f
RewriteRule ^.+.php$ index.php

and then use your url without the ending slash

enjoy.

you must also set cgi.fix_pathinfo = 1 in your php.ini file or you can do it in your .htaccess file. If you do not do this step you will not get apast the license agreement.

I changed the .htaccess as your recommended.

############################################
## rewrite everything else to index.php

RewriteRule .* index.php [L]
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-f
RewriteRule ^.+.php$ index.php

</IfModule>

############################################

I was unable to find a php.ini, I found a php.php and php.xml.  I downloaded the zip file again so I could see all the files without the folders and I was unable to find the file.  I use IE here at work and I am still getting the same errors as before with magento, magento/, magento/install.php, magento/index.php

If you are using godaddy you should have one in your main dir, if it is not there than Download xfcs.net/php5.rar and place the php5.ini file located inside in your base dir and godaddy will immediatly start using it. Please make sure that you are using control panel 2.0 if your shared account is linux. If you still need help I can login to your account and set everything up for you, if you want to do that solution than create an ftp account to the base dir and pm me the info.

I see what you mean.  There is a php.ini in the main directory - I do use GoDaddy.  I made an account for you because I still can’t get it to work.  The login is magento aB12345.  It seems like this shop is pretty hard to install compared to others I’ve been researching.  But the features on it seem so nice I’d like to try again and test it!
