I was running my installation wizard on a server unix machine (PHP 5.2.6, Zend Optimizer v3.3.3, httpd (2.0.63), mysql (5.0.77-community)).

It was proceeding nicely and smoothly (I did have a few errors during installation but I was able to solve them). Then, after I entered my database information (configuration stage) and pressed continue, I got the same page again but in basic html view (black and white). The status bar also indicated that there was a js error. Then, I pressed continue again, and the site navigated to: http://www.mysite.comindex.php (without the slash before index.php).

When I try to run http://www.riyaltatreez.com/install again, I get the installation page (starting all over again from the lisence agreement) - but stil it’s a basic html page which looks horrible and there’s still a js error in the status bar (it says done but has a yellow warning sign next to it)..

if you’d like to take a look at it to see what I mean, you can visit: http://www.riyaltatreez.com/install

any suggestions?

I just found out that my server does not have its safe mode on: http://www.riyaltatreez.com/magento-check.php

When I contacted my host provider, they said there was no way they could turn safe mode off!

Is there a way to turn it off from my side?

btw, I have tried adding a php.ini file with the line: php_admin_flag safe_mode off

I also added the same line to .htaccess. However, htaccess caused the site to crash when I added that line (500 Internal Server Error). Then, when I changed it to php_flag safe_mode off (without the admin), the 500 Internal Server error was gone but safe mode was still on: http://www.riyaltatreez.com/magento-check.php

Usually you can’t change the safe mode settings yourself (unless you can change either php.ini or httpd.conf which is highly unlikely)

I tried deleting /app/etc/local.xml and running the installation again.. and there you go. I got the perfect installation page again.

So, I ran through the installation wizard stage by stage. When I reached the configuration stage, I got that same horrible corrupt page again.

And so, I deleted /app/etc/local.xml again and got the normal installation page again!

how can I get through the configuration stage without crashing?

another thing worth mentioning is that when I proceed after the config page, I get the same config page again, but corrupted (black and white) including a warning that says: “chmod() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/tatreez/public_html/app/code/core/Mage/Install/Model/Installer/Config.php on line 102”

what would that mean?

now the warning is gone and I get a normal configuration page after pressing continue. But I get this error: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user ‘ tatreez_riyal’@’host.arabsgate212.com’ (using password: YES)

Database connection error

I’ve checked over and over again that my username & password are correct but still..

update: for now whenever I try to open my site or file manager I get:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

I think it’s a host related issue. I’m waiting for their reply..
