Thanks for the link but it think that extension is not what I need. My idea is to show prices to everybody but to allow to make purchases only to customers with a paid annual membership. Maybe I can implement this by creating a virtual “Membership” product and once the customer pays for that, switch he/she to a “menber” customer group (there is an extension for that) with full access to the store.
My problem is: How can I “force” the customer to add this “Membership” product to the cart on their firs purchase?

Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

I agree Nicolas, that you appear to need something different. I was just pointing out (for others as well) that Aheadwroks had indeed released the extension that was referred to earlier in this thread.

Hope you find something to work for you.

So, what happened???  I am also planning a site with an annual membership fee.  After visitors pay the membership fee, they will become customers and can shop the site.

What solutions, extensions, or hacks have worked for you all?

You can combine the Subs module from aheadWorks with their Catalog Permissions one:

http://ecommerce.aheadworks.com/magento-extensions/catalog-permissions.html

Create a customer group or groups that are only visible to ‘members’, setting those permissions via the ‘Catalog Permissions’ module. Using the Subs module, you can flip customers into and out of the members groups when they join/membership expires.

Saying that, though, we’ve been trying to get the subs module working with PayPal and it’s been a long slog.

I\\\’ve used this extension. It can manage membership through out the year and membership will expire automatically.

Thanks.
