Hello,

Are the search results page layout available for changes ( like the category pages) within the admin portion of magento? If not what template should be edited?

Hi Jmayer,

I don’t think it is possible to change this through the back-end. Please have a look at this files:

root>app>design>frontend>default>default>template>catalogsearch>result.phtml and at \advanced\result.phtml

Hi
I know its a bit late, but can help someone else. If you just wanna change the page layout .. then in app/design/frontend/default/your_theme/layout/catalogsearch.xml .
At around line 51 you will find this
<reference name="root">
<action method="setTemplate"><template>page/3columns.phtml</template></action>
</reference>
here you can change <template>page/2columns-left.phtml</template>
2columns-left.phtml in my case.

Cheers!!

Hello friends,

When we use systems that include searching capability such as back end administration tools, we often see search forms presented both on the page that you search from and the page that displays the search results. This can be very useful for both the user and the programmer:

* the user doesn’t have to go “back” to search again or refine their search
* the programmer gets to keep their code modularized and reuse the same bit of code over again by maintaining one page instead of two.

However, this does cause some problems for visually impaired users, and (I’ll freely admit) sometimes throws me off for a number of reasons:

* the search form is presented first and, depending on its complexity, pushes the search results below the fold
* there is often no indication that anything has changed – a screen reader user or screen magnifier user are presented with what looks like the same page. On several occasions I’ve been asked in user testing “didn’t I just fill that form out?”
* a keyboard user is required to go through the entire page and search form before getting to the results.

Best regards
Steven Dilley
