I’m working on a project that requires purchasable downloadable products. I noticed on the roadmap a few weeks ago that virtual products were part of this project… but today i don’t see that listed on the road map?
is this feature still going to be included in the march release?
Is this something that will be put in soon after? or is something that can be written in as a plugin? I’m willing to work on a plugin if it’s something that wont be released by the core team.
Downloadable Products will be the difference between my deploying Magento vs. deploying another ZenCart site… I’d rather use Magento, but this is the deal breaker for one of the sites I’m producing.
Lot’s of people seem to be needing the downloadable files option and are forced to use other software then magento. I think it would be nice to know how many people really need it. A poll of some sort would give some nice numbers it think. Maybe that way we’d get the downloadable option earlier…
This is high on our priority list and will be available soon after the production release…
As I’ve started talking to potential clients about the Magento platform, this is a topic that continues to come up over and over. Commerce with electronic delivery seems to really be reaching maturity, and will be a vital feature to have available. Keep up the great work!
- I have products that can be both downloaded and/or shipped on DVD. Customers can choose per product added to the cart whether they’d like
a) to download only or
b) to download AND receive a DVD (at added cost).
- The shopping cart should be capable of holding both download products and real products that get physically shipped in the same order.
- Shipping on checkout must act sensibly if there’s a pure download order (don’t skip the shipping step, but have a suitable “no physical shipping needed” shipment module).
- My download products are customized per order (I have backend software to do that). Consequence is that the download is not available immediately after the purchase, but some time after. The backend prepares the file, uploads it to the download server and THEN magento should send the email with the download link.
So magento should support download products that are not directly linked to an existing file at time of purchase.
If you could make sure that the code is easily customizable to allow post-purchase processing and automatic order state changes, great!
I have 47 clients who are running some form of oscommerce or zen cart. Several have asked me to look into Magento.
A dealbreaker is the ability to order downloadable products. One client who sells lesson plans for teachers is willing to share the cost of developing an extension for downloadable products.
I’ve got $250. Is there anyone else who would like to help share the costs of development whether it is varien, or another developer?
I know in this forum that one of the team members said that they would add this after the release of the main product; but I haven’t seen an update to that timeline. It would be great to get one.
is there an update on this? i wanted to recommend magento to a client of mine, but now i find out it won’t work because the downloadable products functionality doesn’t seem to be there when i installed a demo copy of the program.
It wasn’t there last year when all the internet and all the magazines where crying out of happiness about this god’s gift of a phantastic new shop system. And now we learn it cannot even handle mp3-files. Hey it’s 2008 !!! Forgot something someone??
I bet it won’t be integrated (functioning!!) in 2010 !
