Is there anyway of setting up a sales notification to SMS so I know someone has bought something...anything..... What id like is that if an order comes through my mobile would get an SMS.
II have thought of RSS to SMS, but cant find any UK based services that would forward RSS to UK mobile numbers.
Then I thought of RSS to Email, Email to SMS, but before I explore that does anyoone have any ideas?
Ideally I want to get the order info too, but a simple ‘order received’ would be OK. I have an N95, but dont wantt to have to check on the web, I need the info ‘pushed’ to me if possible.
Services like kapow.com have an API. Takes just a few lines of code to send any number an SMS. If you op that in the right place, you can easily send yourself one with the (summary of) order details.
By copying the sales email to a new, dedicated Googlemail account (added in the admin section) and signing up to emoze.com I get the emails pushed to my Nokia N95.
So, rather cheesilly I have assigned a cash register ring tone so when the email is pushed to the phone I get a ‘kerching!’ sound. Copied that idea from a chum who sell online games.
I did find a couple of foibles. You need to set the forwarding as ‘BCC’ in Magento admin otherwise the actual products ordered dont show up, just nanes and addresses and delivery method. and you need the Nokia to display the emial as HTML as default to see the rendered email.
This is useful, as a one man business, I can head out in the afternoon and be notified if orders come in, so I can process them on the same day if need be. Also, being able to see the actual email order confrimation is really useful, frees me from the desk a bit.
Have you gotten it.. There must be away to check the emails address and if they are numeric in the beginning Just send a Detailed subject. With the basic information
We are planning to set up a very cheap SMS gateway service for UK users for exactly this, normal emails are forwarded to an email address, that email is parsed then processed as a text message.

Interesting.... But I want to send SMS messages thru Magento… Should be relativly easy.. just need to distingush Email and SMS email address and send adjusted email.. Can someone point me to the Program that sends order emails.
We have an SMS module launching soon. This will enable both merchants and customers receive order status updates. You will be able to tell Magento to send an SMS to a customer when an order hits a given status or multiple status, and pull in information such as tracking information. This means that not only could you update your customer to let them know their item is shipped, but also notify the customer when there is an issue with their order and you place it ‘On Hold’.
For example:
‘There is an issue with your order (#1000383). Please contact customer services on 0844 884 2523 to discuss this issue further’.
Template would be: ‘There is an issue with your order(#[order.incrementid]). Please contact customer services on [store.phonenumber] to discuss this issue further.
And as merchants, you can program the system to send you notifications of sales:
‘Sale Notification: Mr M Newby has placed an order worth £129.99. Based on cost settings, this equates to £38.00 profit’.
Template would be: ‘Sale Notification: [customer.name] has placed an order worth [order.grandtotal]. Based on cost settings, this equates to [order.profit] profit.’
The module will also enable you to collect customer mobile numbers into an SMS mailing list, and customers can subscribe / unsubscribe via their account area on the website.
You could then target customers by demographic and send them newsletters:
‘John, you last ordered from us on 24/02/2010. We’d love you to come back to us - use this voucher code to save £5 off your next order over £50! NA9484.’
Template: ‘[customer.name], you last ordered from us on [customer.lastorderdate]. We’d love you to come back to us - use this voucher code to save £5 off your next order over £50! NA9484.’
We’re currently in negotiations with an SMS gateway provider, but we will release the module for free and charge only for credit packs in a similar way to CraftyClicks postcode lookup service.
Update 03/06/2010
The module now supports the management of the event {New Order}. Can be configured to send to store owner an SMS notification with the key data of the new order was just entered by the customer.
We are almost ready to launch a new worldwide Magento solution which will provide this service. textCommerce will be available for download from mid-November, and will allow you to send customers ‘back in stock’ alerts via SMS, send customers order status notifications and alert an administration when an order is placed.

As a quick update, our textCommerce module / service for Magento has been added to MagnetoConnect today. We have also reduced the price per message drastically due to feedback from interested customers - messages are still charged at a flat rate per message worldwide, but this is now from just 5.2p / message. This is lower than BulkSMS, Esendex and others.
