Is it just me or is the name “Magento” confusing?

I have to compose myself for a few seconds before I tell people the name of the project. Otherwise, it will get the name Magneto. Now, magenta doesn’t confuse me because it’s only the letter “o” that throws my brain into low gear.

...and it doesn’t help that X-Men: The Last Stand is still running on HBO.

We’ve received great comments about the name. Write it down in big letters so you can remember it smile

I just found this online: “Children with a reading disorder may confuse or transpose words or letters...”

big surprise Ack!

Apparently, I’m a child.

When I first heard about the project I kept associating it with Magneto (so I voted that way), but anymore I’ve just associated it with the color and I’ve been okay :D

I just started calling it magneto as the code name for our comic shop website.  So it works out either way. grin

Opps.. I voted wrong. I read the first alternative as “Magento” and nothing else.

I think Magento is a great name and when I’m talking about it, I say Magento and nothing else smile

it’s a name, that has little association with eCommerce for now. But what relates google to search, joomla to cms, (put whatever you want here)? We’re always used to have a name that relates to it’s function (like osCommerce for commerce) so imho it’s a name that will stick and will be easily remembered if the magento team continues with the good development smile

That’s a great name, nothing confusing, Google search is confusing. Probably it take sometimes for Google to adapt. Maybe soon…

I thought the name was magneto all day at my work. But when I reached home, I couldn’t locate the site :(
Thanks for this A.K.A site http://www.magnetocommerce.com/ and the explanation for how it is pronounced.

Oops....

Thank you for visiting Magneto Commerce.

You are probably looking for Magento Commerce, prounounced ma-jen-to (not Magneto) and we thought we’d help you out.

You will be redirected to Magento in 3, 2, 1 ....

I guess, the confusion has a lot to do with the x-men character Magneto

I was struggling but think I am getting it now… interesting enough I was just texting my friend to tell him about the great new app I found, and my blackberry recognised magento in its predictive text, sweet smile

I don’t have any problems with the name Magento, but I also have some flying experience and a lot of small aircraft use “Magnetos” in their engines rather than spark plugs. BUT it would help roll off the tongue better if it were called Magenta, however, I hate the color so I would probably end up not using the software because of that...plus could you image what the “Magenta” website would look like loaded with that god awful color??! smile
