Ok, this might seem like a stupid question. But I’m putting together a community site with Joomla! and was thinking that I might also want to sell a few things on it some day.  It’s for a small ISP in a small community, so I’ll be doing all the work myself.  I am a Magento neophyte.  Would it be completely whackodoodle of me to build my community site (local news, weather, chat, etc.) with Magento?  Or is that like using a nuclear bomb on an ant hill?

If you had a choice between using Joomla for something like this, or Magento, which would you choose?  If you had limited time and resources?
Opinions Please!?

Joomla mostly is a cms and Magento is a e-commerce software. Do you mind using http://www.boonex.com/products/dolphin/ , http://www.socialengine.net/ , or http://www.phpfox.com/ for a community site?

You may want to check out JFusion. They have an open source SSO solution for bridging Joomla and Magento.
