Multiple products - same “size” attribute

Hi all, I can’t seem to get this right. I’ve been doing research for days, but feel that I’m probably missing something:

I set up an attribute of “size” with S, M, L in manage label options.
I assign it to default where I’m creating all the products.
I then create products as follows:

(I have in “category X” 25 products. All 25 products have a “size” attribute like a tee shirt (S,M,L))

I create the parent configurable product that uses the size attribute
When I go to the “associated products” tab, I fill the quick simple product creation and hit “quick create” button.
This process works as it’s supposed to for the first product, and I end up with three associated products one each for (S,M,L).

The issue is that when I move to the next product and create the parent configurable product, it always refers back to the first product’s associated product, and will not generate new simple products.

Is there something that I am missing?
