Magento

I was wondering if there was a simple way to change the layout of the product zoom.  I am displaying products that are very wide, but not very high, and a product image that was 400 wide by 100 high would be ideal for me.  I checked out Product.js and found the function for zoom, but before i get lost in the code I was wondering if someone knew a quick tutorial or breakdown of it.
