Can also easily customized via CSS (display:none) in skin/adminhtml/default/default/*.css

You can also give those admin menu items a dependency on a non existing module. Example:

<adminhtml>
    <
menu>
<
catalog>
    <
children>
        <
urlrewrite>
            <
depends><module>My_Nonexisting_Model</module></depends>
        </
urlrewrite>
    </
children>
</
catalog>
    </
menu>
  </
adminhtml>

This way the forbidden menu entries won’t appear in the source code of the page either and everything is contained in a nice config file.

Good luck

Claudia
