How can I tell if my SSL is working?

Hello everyone,

I purchased my SSL certificate through alpha 256 bit and the installation was done perfectly.  You are now able to access my site at https://www.cellfservices.com/store or the standard http://

I just finished doing some testing with my payments pro and the credit cards are all working fine as well as the regular paypal express and standard.  Now here’s my question…

When I check out with the credit card, it doesn’t change the address to https:// (never seen).  So how do I know if the settings that I’ve set up are correct in the settings? I’ve contact siteground (my hosting server) and they said to contact people here.  Here are the instructions that they give.

http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/magento/magento_ssl.htm

My settings are set up exactly that way except the domain is…

http://www.cellfservices.com/store/

Any ideas to confirm if the SSL is indeed protecting credit card checkouts or not?

If you don’t see it switching to https:// in the browser bar then you aren’t secure.

In the Admin panel go to System->Configuration->Web and then in the Secure panel you should have Use Secure URLs in Frontend enabled and the base URL and other entries should be https:// as well.

Thanks for your response.  Looks like I’m secure now.  However, I thought there was a way to secure only the cart part of magento instead of the entire site.  By having the entire site with https:// doesn’t it slow the whole site down?  Is there a way to just get it on my cart?

Problem solved....Here’s a solution for others that may be struggling with this…

Go to System—Configuration—Web

Just change the following…

unsecure to http://yourdomain.com/
secure to https://yourdomain.com/

Make sure that the Use Secure URLs in Frontend is: Yes

Everything on your site will go to your regular http:// site, but when you go to the checkout, it will be https://

Yeah, that’s what I meant by in the Secure panel. wink

I guess I should have said “and then in the secure base URL”
