Is this normal?

Whenever I try to see the Patches or Documentation for a Magento Connect extension, I always receive the error “You are not authorized to view this forum”.

I tried contacting Varien directly, but they said they do not offer free support including for their own website, I guess. I either have to sign up for paid support or find an answer through the community.

Is this the same for everybody?

I sorry, am I reading you correctly?  Varien and the Magento Team won’t look into why you can’t access extension forums on this (Magento’s own) website?  Why would you have to pay them to fix their broken website?  Disgusting!

Doesn’t that reflect back really badly on Magento and Varien?  I mean, if they can’t fix their own website, why should we trust them to be worth paying to fix our problems?

Brady,

I’ve not experienced that message before. Can you post a link to a specific forum you are seeing it on?

Have you tried from a different browser IE vs FF vs Safari. Have you tried clearing your browser cookies, etc and restarting to make sure nothing is screwy there?

I’ve tried in all the browsers I have access to (Mac - Safari & Firefox).

For example, I’m trying to see Documentation for the Lazzymonk Wordpress Integration extension.
Main Extension Page: http://www.magentocommerce.com/extension/296/lazzymonks-wordpress-integration
Documentation Page: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewcategory/10363/ (shows I am not authorized to access)

This happens on numerous other extensions as well.

Very strange.

Not only am I able to access that just fine. I can also access it when not logged in at all (ie. no authorization) as well as via a brand new account I just created. Lastly, anonymous proxy sites (check this one can also access it.

Have you tried:

1) logging out (upper right hand corner) and seeing if that makes a difference?
2) from my earlier post, once logged out clearing all of your browser cache/history/cookies and closing/restarting your browser

Now that’s interesting… when I logout and try to visit the Documentation Forum, it works fine. Which leads me to believe there is something screwy with my account.

Too bad I can’t get ahold of anybody at Varien to fix it! Not quite sure what to do next. I’d rather not setup a new account.

I’m having the same problem. Most extensions I can’t access the documentation forum, but for some I can. If I log out, I can’t access any of them at all.

Has anyone come across a solution for this issue? We have recently uploaded a new extension and are experiencing the same difficulties. When logged in if we try to go to Patches or Documentation we get the following error.
