I have had my site up for 3 months now, and its nowhere to be seen on google for anything i type.

Even if i type mywebsite.co.uk i get nothing, so its not there at all. Is there something blocking the site from showing up on google, or do i have to turn something on. Im getting a bit worried, any suggestions welcome.

EDIT: No trace of my site is showing up on any search engine. There must be something blocking it!

EDIT 2: Does Cache settings have anything to do with it?

EDIT 3: Anything to do with the htaccess?

I tried going to the URL you listed and got a 404 error. Are you sure this is a valid URL?

Hi Phixon,

Just to double check, have you actually *submitted* your site to google to be crawled? I don’t see a robots.txt or a sitemap.xml for you, so have you manually gone to google and asked them to crawl your URLs?

Yes, that page is a good start. They can’t know to crawl your domain unless they know it exists.

You can also go to webmaster tools (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/), load your site in, and make sure google is succesfully able to see your homepage, crawl your site, add sitemaps, etc.

Go to Google and sign up for their Webmaster tools. There is an explanation there on what Google expects in a sitemap and how to submit it to them. Magento can create the sitemap for you: navigate to System > Configuration and click the Google Sitemap tab on the left. Create the sitemap and submit it to Google.

I also recommend that you sign up for Google analytics and configure that in your store as well.

Just to confirm, there is no settings in magento that can block google and such. Also do cache settings effect it at all?

Not inherently, no. The only thing on your site that could block Google’s crawler would be your robots.txt file. And you don’t have one that I can tell.

Cache settings can impact your crawl frequency, but not whether you initially get into the index.

ok i think i have something here::

Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Apr 23, 2009: We’ve detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.

Ok, surely there is something up with that!

Ignore this, it worked after a few refreshes

Do you think jballotti getting 404 errors could be related?

Could be, I think it is because no other website links to your website, you need inlinks.

I put one on my website to you, so should help you get cached and indexed.
