I can confirm that AlexH’s patch fixes the issue.  Excellent!

For those who would like to implement this patch in an upgrade-safe way, see this post

Usually a good move but maybe not in this case because Magento dev has said they will review the patch and one way or the other they will fix this and even if there isn’t more to it in this case, the upgrade safe fix may prevent other fixes in same file to be missed on update.

So I at least have gone the path to not make this change upgrade safe, but it’s great with your little tutorial as it may come handy in other situations, mainly when you extend Magento with own code I would say. Well just my view on it…

@Yettyn - it is not guaranteed that Varien will include the patch in the next version (though it seems likely, given that it seems to resolve the issue).  Also, as the upgrade-safe version overrides only the offending method, it is unlikely that other patches would be affected unless they involve the method in question.  Your post does bring up a good point: one should always review diff files of upgrades to see if any overridden methods have been patched, altered, or depricated in the core.

The fix of categories will be included into 1.3.2.3 release.

The issues with indexers http://www.magentocommerce.com/bug-tracking/issue?issue=6583 fixes are planned for 1.4.x

Wait a minute! I look at the issue roadmap and see 1.3.2.2 and 1.3.3 but no 1.3.2.3 - does it mean there is another “bugfix” release planned in between these two and when can we expect that in such case (approx.)?

The saving of product issue is a big task - we need to re-engineer indexing process. It is planned to implement it lighter in next minor version (1.4.x)

Do you use catalog price rules? We don’t use them by now.
Saving products (in backend and via Mage_Catalog_Product_Api_V2) takes ~1sec per product here with v. 1.3.2.2 (we are running installations with 30000 - 60000 products).
Enable caching will give you a little boost.

“Merge JavaScript Files” will take all single .js files and put them together to one JavaScript (maybe this also will apply some compression algorythms i.e. removing multiple whitespaces, linebreaks, etc.)

So the <head> part will only reference one big JavaScript instead of many smaller scripts.

Hi,

after the new update to 1.3.2.3 it is still the same.

Thx Axel for the solution that helped some people but I think we have to make a difference here between problems.

Some people only have problems by saving products. But other ones have problems with the complete admin panel. It´s so slow that no good working with it is possible.

For example I also cannot save any attributsets which are a little big bigger or use the default set as motherset. Or just the login takes up to 10-20sec

I dont know what happend. I got another installation on the same server with the same database server and it runs well BUT it is Ver 1.3.0

Also it cannot be a JS file reason or something because also people have it with fresh installations.

Any other ideas ?
