Hi to all,

I configure my magento to Venezuela bolivar currency but the symbol that magento shows is “Be”. I need to change that symbol to “Bs”.

Is that change possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I think that you simply need to change the xml file with the locale settings here:  in /lib/Zend/Locale/Data/<your locale>.xml

I haven’t tried though…

Good luck

Claudia

To be honest I don’t have the slightest idea…

I would simply have a look at all files containing the word ‘bolivar’ and in these files replace the
‘<symbol>Be</symbol>’
by
‘<symbol>Bs</symbol>’

To be on the safe side you should make a backup though…

Good luck

Claudia

Hi, look in the es.xml file in that folder. Around line 3509 (v1.3.0), there is

<currency type="VEB">
                <
displayName>bolívar venezolano</displayName>
                <
displayName count="one">bolívar venezolano</displayName>
                <
displayName count="other">bolívares venezolanos</displayName>
                <
symbol>Be</symbol>
            </
currency>
            <
currency type="VEF">
                <
displayName>bolívar fuerte venezolano</displayName>
                <
displayName count="one">bolívar fuerte venezolano</displayName>
                <
displayName count="other">bolívares fuertes venezolanos</displayName>
                <
symbol>BsF</symbol>
            </
currency>
I think this is what you need. Maybe you have still old currency set up in admin, as it should display BsF with proper configuration?

Hey Nightfly,

That’s it!!!!!! Thank You very Much!!!!, finally the currency symbol changed!!

One more thing, about the “Bolivar Fuerte” currency, I looked in Currency Setup (admin section) but that currency does not appear on the list.... Do I need to make more changes so that currency will show on the list?

Thanks again!

Hey Nightfly,

Looking again in the site, the currency symbol change only if I changed the “local Options” on the admin pane to espanol (venezuela) but, that language pack is not complete translated yet. Exist any possibility to apply the currency symbol change that you said using “espanol (espana)” in the Local Option (admin pane).

Or maybe apply the translation pack using on Espana to Venezuela… Could be done?

Thanks again

hey, I’m facing a similar problem with Saudi Riyals (it’s displaying SRI while I want it to show SR). I tried to follow the steps you mentioned in this thread (changed all the xml files that contain saudi riyal), but still same result.

any idea what else I can try?

You’re right that fixes the problem, many thanks, now to answer a few questions, the locale should be the “main” language:
English = en.xml
Spanish = es.xml
if the symbol doesn’t exist just add it, I did it with GTQ:
<symbol>Q</symbol>
etc..

And finally, remember to refresh the cache of magento:
system > cache management > flush magento cache && flush cache storage

hope it helps someone! cheers

I had the same issue with Ukrainian Hryvna (UA) in Russian locale (ru)

I have changed uk.xml, ru.xml, ru_UA.xml files

In ru_UA.xml I have added even the whole block

<currency type="UAH">
                <
displayName>Украинская Ð³Ñ€Ð¸Ð²Ð½Ð°</displayName>
                <
displayName count="few">гривні</displayName>
                <
displayName count="many">гривень</displayName>
                <
displayName count="one">гривня</displayName>
                <
displayName count="other">гривні</displayName>
                <
symbol>грн.</symbol>
            </
currency>

“Flush Magento Cache” was not enough. Only after “Flush Cache Storage” it became work

FYI - Magento 1.7 now makes it easy to change currency symbols:

Go to the System Tab

In the dropdown box find:
Manage Currency > Symbols

There, you can easily change the symbol that shows up.

Magento 1.7 is giving option to change symbol in admin section. But If you are using magento old version and want to change currency symbol just open this file.

/lib/Zend/Locale/Data/root.xml

Change the currency symbol, clear magento cache and you have done.

GOOD LUCK

Nadeem
