Magento

I’ve just installed Magento (Media Temple grid server) - http://www.econic.ca/magento and have began playing around and testing a few design changes.  I’m absolutely in love with the platform, but am finding it excruitatingly slow.  I’ve seen a couple other installs, and looked at the Magento demo system - and nothing else seems as slow as mine.  for example - http://www.greenstone.maori.nz

Is it Media Temple? or is there anything that I can do to speed up Magento on the server/hosting side (I’m a PHP novice! - and don’t think i’ll be able to compress any of the files etc. within Magento.)

I am in the same exact situation. Running on Media Temple as well as Dreamhost but its remarkably slow. Like really. I am in love with the platform its just slow and heavy. I wish there was a way to use the software but I may have to settle for something less feature rich but is faster.

kaydeezy - Magento is still in Beta. We are working on improving performance right now and hope to have an increase in performance for the stable release.

I can, however, say that we saw different performance on different hosting environments some of which were presented in the forum.

I have a 3.5 DV server and a GRID server, the DV server works great with Magento, but the GRID server is tooo slow,

GRID - http://gfproject.net/ (Just Magento from the pack)

I spoke with a Suport Agent he said the GRID Service can’t handle Magento.

Media Temple is been great for 4 years for me, besides one technical support person helping me to destroy my own magento database.

My recommendation is that If you want to experiment Magento, don’t go for the Grid Service with Media Temple.
